We have been awarded a Great Taste Award!

Exciting news - we are among the Great Taste winners of 2020!


Out of 12,777 products judged from 106 different countries, we are absolutely over the moon to have been awarded a 2-star Great Taste award, which means judges dubbed it above and beyond delicious for our Pork pie with caramelised onion chutney and blue Stilton.


Judged by 144 of the most discerning palates, belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs, buyers, retailers and producers, as well as food writers and journalists, Great Taste is the most coveted of all food and drink awards. As well as a badge of honour, the unmistakable black and gold Great Taste label is a signpost to an outstanding product, which has been discovered through hours and hours of blind tasting.


This year’s winners have been found through a combination of remote judging and socially distanced judging sessions, after the lockdown began just one week into the schedule.


Here is what the judges had to say:


An attractive and interesting looking pie with a well baked pastry - even on the bottom! The Stilton has melted well and covered the top - hiding the fabulous interior within. A well judged layer of chutney that surrounds the firm and meaty centre is a great idea. We very much enjoyed the combination of flavours - the salty Stilton marries well with the pastry and complements the pork perfectly. The pork is moist, firm, full of good porky flavour and is seasoned perfectly. The whole pie is divine, well judged, perfectly cooked and incredibly delicious. The chutney and Stilton are inspired.

 

We really thought that the pie had a great appearance. Lovely golden bake with attractive melted cheese on top with the blue from the Stilton evident. It cut really well and the pastry was perfectly cooked with just the right amount of jelly for us - not too much! On tasting the cheese was evident but not over powering and complements the pie well. The meat was full of flavour with fantastic texture. The onion chutney was discernible and gave another delicious dimension.

 

The short crust pasty on this pie is deliciously crumbly. The pork centre also has a juicy, coarse texture and is well seasoned with plenty of black pepper. There is just the right amount of Stilton on top, making its presence felt whilst not taking over. The caramelised onion chutney also gives the product a lovely sweet lift. Not one for the purists, but a delicious and well executed twist on a classic.
